While Tampa is perhaps not as well endowed in terms of landmarks and monuments as other Florida cities, the city of Tampa is by no means short of history and heritage. Obvious visual constructions may not be prevalent, but take a visit to the districts of Hyde Park and Ybor and you'll find a distinct flavor of yesteryear and many buildings that capture a strong sense of the city's heritage.

Meanwhile, modern landmarks and constructions such as the Raymond James Stadium and the Tampa Convention Center have also contributed greatly to the city's unique character.

MacDill Air Force Base (AFB)

Tampa's MacDill Air Force Base might be considered a landmark or even a district in its own right on account of its lengthy history and importance to the US Military. The base has been of strategic importance since before WWII and was integral to operations during and after the war. Internal visits to the base are permitted only to those with a sponsor that is resident at the base.

Raymond James Stadium

The Raymond James Stadium is home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the city's official NFL team. Besides being a great place to catch an exciting game of American football, the stadium features a US$3 million pirate ship and a range of gift stores. The stadium has been home to the Buccaneers since 1998, the same year it replaced the original Tampa stadium.

Tampa Convention Center

With Tampa being such an important city for business and commerce it's not surprising that Tampa's Convention Center is such a magnificent building. Located on downtown Tampa's waterfront, the Convention Center features 600,000 feet of meeting space, a 36,000 square foot ballroom and a 200,000 square foot exhibit hall.
